Brisbane Roar defender James Donachie will play his 50th Hyundai A-League game this Sunday against Wellington Phoenix at Suncorp Stadium.

The 21-year-old, who will depart for national team duty with the Australia U23s squad following the match, has made 15 appearances and scored two goals in the current Hyundai A-League season alone.

Donachie made his debut in the final round of the 2011/12 season away to Gold Coast United and has since grown in his role at centre-back, playing alongside Jade North, the new-departed Matt Smith and more recently, Luke DeVere.

The Brisbane-born defender is enjoying his football, both for the club and for the national team.

“I’m only 21 now and in my time with the national team I’ve played against Germany U21 and the Netherlands junior teams and the players you can come up against are amazing,” he said.

“The experiences you get, playing against different players and some great teams, are massive for me as a young player.”

Donachie and Corey Brown will leave for Chinese Taipei on Sunday night for the AFC U23 Championship Qualifiers while captain Matt McKay and DeVere will depart the same night for Socceroos duty in Europe.
