Brisbane Roar will continue to build for the Hyundai A-League 2016/17 season with a clash against Central Coast Mariners in Brisbane on September 10.

The Roar will take on the Mariners at Corporate Travel Management Stadium, the home ground of PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues Queensland side Brisbane City, on Saturday, 10 September (3pm KO).

With only five weeks to go until the Roar host the Hyundai A-League season opener against Melbourne Victory at Suncorp Stadium on October 7, the clash with Central Coast will provide an invaluable challenge against quality opposition in pre-season.

So far throughout pre-season, the Roar have played two pre-season fixtures against Hyundai A-League opposition (Western Sydney Wanderers and Sydney FC), as well as a Westfield FFA Cup tie with Perth Glory.

Most recently the senior squad played a Brisbane Premier League Select at QSAC Stadium winning 4-0.

Winger Tommy Oar says that benefits of pre-season match practice, especially against Hyundai A-League opposition, cannot be underestimated.

“We are always working hard at training and looking to improve as a group at training, but these games in pre-season are the real test,” Oar said.

“It’s here you find out where you’re really at as a team and as an individual.

“To get as many games before Round One against Melbourne Victory at Suncorp Stadium can only be a good thing for us.

Brisbane won all three clashes against the Mariners during the Hyundai A-League 2015/16 season, who finished 10th.

Central Coast have made a number of quality additions to their squad during the off-season, but Oar ( below)  says the Roar are squarely focused on playing the ‘Roar Way’ regardless of the opposition.

“You keep an eye on things and see which players are moving where,” he said.

“The focus for us is purely on ourselves we’re just wanting to concentrate on implementing what we’ve been working on during pre-season training.

It has been a busy start to the month for the Brisbane Roar Football Club signing Australian World Cup hero Brett Holman on a long-term deal.

Holman will provide a wealth of experience to the Roar side, following a lengthy club career in Europe and the Middle East, as well as featuring regularly for the Australian national side.
