Continued improvement the focus for Young Roar

Four wins from the opening five games has been a reward for effort according to Young Roar Head Coach James Robinson.

Brisbane head into Round 6 of the NPL Queensland Senior Men's 2018 competition in second position with just the one defeat to their name.

Robinson has been impressed with his side’s opening five rounds but says the focus remains squarely on continued improvement and getting better each week.

“The outcome is pleasing in terms of the results but so are the processes that the boys are delivering on,” Robinson said.

“They are getting the just rewards for what they’re putting in. We know the challenges that playing in the NPL brings – it’s a big step up in terms of physicality and mentality for a young side.”

The next challenge for the Young Roar is Brisbane City FC who finds themselves in unfamiliar territory with just one win from the opening month.

That victory did come last week and complacency is not an issue for a well-prepared Young Roar side.

“Each team brings its new challenges, and on their day, any team can beat any other side,” Robinson continued.

“First and foremost, we’ll focus on ourselves and how we play. We know that City will put up a great challenge right from the first whistle

“It always helps that your pre-season is the Foxtel NYL season. We’ve been playing a high standard of competitive games and exposed a lot of young players during the Foxtel NYL campaign.”

Goals haven’t been hard to come by for the Roar who have found the back of the net at least twice in each game so far this season, but the visitors will be looking for a tighter defensive showing after conceding three against Redlands United last week.

“You want to improve on every facet. It’s nice to continually score because we want to be known as an attacking team,” Robinson concluded.

“We want to tighten a few things up still, and we know that we will progressively. We want to continue building upon what we’ve done and look to get better in everything we do.”
