Brisbane Roar have been given a boost ahead of Sunday-s top-of-the-table Westfield W-League clash against Central Coast Mariners, with lively midfielder Tameka Butt set to return to the squad.
The Young Matildas captain is considered an integral part of Hopkins- midfield, which she underlined by dominating the opening round-s Grand Final re-match, setting up one goal and scoring another against Canberra United.
Coach Jeff Hopkins is pleased to have Butt, who injured her hamstring in training last week and subsequently missed last Saturday-s 1-0 win over Melbourne Victory, back in action but remained tight-lipped on whether she would be a part of his starting eleven.
“I-ve got one or two tough decisions to make on the starting line-up, as the players who came in last week all did very well.
“But ultimately I-ve got to pick a team that is going to win the game and I-ll pick the strongest team to ensure we get the three points on Sunday.”
Hopkins said that despite Butt-s displeasure at missing the away trip to Melbourne, she had the right mentality heading into this weekend-s clash.
“It was a tough call leaving her out last week, she was desperate to play but I made the choice to leave her out in case she wasn-t 100% fit and did further damage.
“But this week Tameka come back to training, and has got on well with everything and put it behind her.
“She has shown a lot of maturity for a young player.”
Both the Roar and the Mariners have started the season impressively, scoring nine goals and conceding just one between them in the opening two rounds and know that the result on Sunday could prove important come the finals series.
Kick-off is at 6pm on Sunday 18 October at Ballymore Stadium, Clyde Road, Herston. Tickets are available at the gate, $5 for adults and $2 for concessions.
