Brisbane roaring into Dolphin Stadium

Our Roar Women will take confidence and momentum into Thursday night’s Westfield W-League clash against Western Sydney Wanderers at Dolphin Stadium (6:30pm KO).

After securing a valuable three points against top-of-the-table Melbourne Victory on Sunday, our ladies in orange are hungry for another successful night out at home this Thursday.

The always reliable Clare Polkinghorne, who played a key role in the Roar’s third goal on Sunday, applauded her side’s efforts in the win.

“It’s always nice to win at home. To beat the league leaders was a massive effort for us, it’s a step forward going into the middle of the season. Every point is really important now,” Polkinghorne said on Wednesday morning.

“With a short turn-around, it’s just all about making sure firstly that we recover well from the Melbourne [Victory] game, and now prepare ourselves for the battle against the Wanderers.”

The Sydney-based side will not be underestimated as the Roar Women look to replicate their focus and enthusiasm witnessed by more than 1100 in attendance at Lions FC Stadium last weekend.

“Any team we play, we prepare the same and play our way. The Wanderers are a dangerous side, they’ve pushed a lot of teams,” Polkinghorne continued.

“Where they are on the table doesn’t mean they are going to be an easy win, they’re a tough team, they have quality players and they can score goals.”

In their final match at home for 2018, the Roar Women are looking forward to heading into Christmas in front of parochial home support in Redcliffe.

“It’s going to be nice to be in Redcliffe. We had our pre-game training session there and we’re really looking forward to it. It’s always nice playing football in the Australian summer.”
