Brisbane Roar Academy is pleased to announce it will be providing assistance to the families and junior footballers affected by the recent closure of the Brisbane-based Barça Academy.
As Queensland’s only Hyundai A-League team, continuing the support of grassroots and junior football in the State is of paramount importance to Brisbane Roar.
The Club was deeply concerned by the news of families of young footballers being heavily affected by the closure of a private academy.

With the support of Pine Hills FC and the Moreton Bay Regional Council, Brisbane Roar will be offering footballers affected by the closure of the Barça Academy to participate in a carnival-style tournament, located in the Moreton Bay Regional Council, in the coming months.

Additionally, the Brisbane Roar Academy will be inviting these young footballers to participate free of charge in the Academy’s Junior Talent ID program in Term 3, 2020 under the tutoring of its highly-accredited and experienced coaches.
“In these uncertain times, Brisbane Roar will always do what we can with the resources at our disposal to support football in Queensland,” Brisbane Roar CEO David Pourre said.
“We felt it upon ourselves to come in and offer support in the best way we can and provide these young kids and their families with some reprieve and a little bit of hope that they can get some football in this year and enjoy it.
“Brisbane Roar have and will always support our football community at large and we have highly-accredited coaches and a wonderful Academy system to assist these children.
Brisbane Roar Academy General Manager Warren Moon says the Academy plays an integral part in the development of junior footballs in Queensland.

“We know our role in the landscape of Queensland football and we want to give these kids the opportunity to continue playing football and enjoy it,” Moon said.
Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor Peter Flannery said the Brisbane Roar were the heroes of an otherwise terrible story.
“We teach our kids that sport is about community, mateship, and perseverance – and the Roar embody all of that,” he said.
“I am in awe of their willingness to provide an elite-level training camp entirely free of charge, where the Barça Academy has left families high and dry. The financial impact on these families is huge and I expect the only thing giving them some faith in the sport they love right now is Brisbane Roar.
“The Roar aren’t just doing the right thing by the community, they’re giving kids something to look forward to at a time when hope and optimism is needed most and showing them what real team spirit is about.
“Given how well the Roar’s games at Dolphin Stadium have been received, and now having them stand by our community through this tough time, I hope to see a lot more of the orange army in our region.”
