Our Brisbane Roar Academy Futsal Program will field ten teams across the coming weekend at the 2020 Gold Coast International Futsal Cup being held at the Gold Coast Sport and Leisure Centre and Carrara Stadium.

Players from all over Brisbane & the Gold Coast attended selection trials in November with weekly training sessions being held at the Queensland State Hockey Centre at Colmslie & at the Cornubia Indoor Sports Centre.  Our teams are now primed and ready to take on some of the best club teams from around Australia and New Zealand with the tournament running from this Thursday, 23 January – Sunday, 26 January.

Brisbane Roar will be fielding boys teams, from U8 through to U14, as well as a Girls U14 squad.

The tournament will be the first major event for the Brisbane Roar Academy’s Futsal program after the Club became the first Hyundai A-League Club to endorse futsal as part of its Academy program in October.

“The program is designed to harness the power of futsal to develop the skills of a new generation of dynamic footballers,” BRFC Academy Futsal Coach Barry McErlean said.

“The Gold Coast International will be the first of many tournaments our players will participate in and learnings from the tournament will form the building blocks for the Academy as it expands into the future.”

Brisbane Roar Academy General Manager Warren Moon is excited to see the Club in action at a major futsal event for the first time.

“We believe futsal can benefit the development of our Academy players to provide them with a more rounded football education as they strive to become Hyundai A-League players for Brisbane Roar,” Brisbane Roar Academy General Manager Warren Moon said.

The 2020 Term 1 program will commence in February with the curriculum focusing on developing players’ individual skills and tactical knowledge of futsal.
