The Australian Professional Football Club’s Association (APFCA) is pleased to announce two new appointments to the organisation’s leadership.
Paul Lederer will become Chairman of APFCA, filling the role left vacant since Greg Griffin was appointed as APFCA CEO, with Christopher Fong as Vice-Chairman. The two appointments were made following a unanimous vote by the ten APFCA club representatives, in line with the organisation’s constitution.
The duo bring a wealth of football and business experience, both in Australia and internationally. Paul has been Chairman and co-owner of Western Sydney Wanderers since 2014, and is founder of the Lederer Group. Christopher Fong is the Vice-Chairman of Brisbane Roar FC and advisor to Brisbane owners, the Bakrie Group.
“It is an incredible honour to be appointed as APFCA Chairman, and I look forward to further co-operation and collaboration with the new and existing FFA leadership. On behalf of APFCA, I offer congratulations to Heather, Remo and Joseph on their board appointments, and to Chris Nikou as he takes the Chairmanship,” APFCA Chairman Paul Lederer said following his appointment.
Speaking to the current state of the game, APFCA newly appointed Chairman added.
“In the last 24 months, we have seen extraordinary progress, particularly in terms of governance, built upon unprecedented collaboration between the many stakeholders in the game. Whilst we are currently in the very earliest stages of change following the recent governance overhaul, the foundations exist for real and lasting transformation, as we continue to work together with the entire football family,” Lederer continued.
Newly appointed APFCA Vice-Chairman, Chris Fong, looked to the future.
“APFCA’s focus is now on developing the best possible football ecosystem that is rooted in strong and sustainable foundations, for the benefit of the whole footballing community. Our immediate priority is the transition to a new, independent A-League as we work to bring the game in line with best practices in Australian sport and in the world’s most successful football leagues,” BRFC Vice-Chairman Chris Fong said.
