Ange extends Brisbane contract

Brisbane Roar Head Coach Ange Postecoglou extends contract at club for a futher two years.

Brisbane Roar-s double winning Head Coach Ange Postecoglou has agreed to extend his contract with the club to cover the next three Hyundai A-League seasons.

The two-year extension to his existing contract will see the Hyundai A-League 2010/11 Premiership and 2011 Championship-winning coach remain at Brisbane Roar until the end of the Hyundai A-League 2013/14 season.

It also means he will be at the helm when Brisbane Roar represents Australian clubs in the AFC Asian Champions League in 2012.

Ange Postecoglou said today he was extremely pleased to secure the new deal and finish off a fantastic week.

“Ever since we started to build something in Brisbane I have said that I was very keen to stay and continue the work that we began,” Mr Postecoglou said.

“It was always a long term vision and it is fantastic to have the opportunity to see it through and I am very pleased to be able to continue here in Brisbane and see how far we can go.

“For me, my whole motivation for everything I-ve done was to stay here and build something.”

Postecoglou said, along with wife Georgia, he was keen to continue to build not only the club but his life off the field in Queensland-s capital.

“It was a major decision for myself both professionally and personally,” he said.

“With my wife, discussing it, I really wanted to stay here.

“There was never really any intention to do anything different so when it worked out I was really delighted.”

FFA CEO Ben Buckley said that Postecoglou-s contract extension would be a major boost to Brisbane Roar following their spectacular Hyundai A-League 2011 Grand Final victory on Sunday.

“In his first 18 months at Brisbane Roar, Ange has not only turned the fortunes of the club around but set new benchmarks around success and the quality of the football displayed on the pitch,” Mr Buckley said.

“Earlier this week I said we would make it a priority to clear up the uncertainty around the coaching position at the Roar and I am pleased that we have been able to achieve that.

“I would like to congratulate Ange on his new deal and thank him for his professional conduct during negotiations.”

Under Postecoglou, Brisbane Roar has secured a national code breaking 28-match undefeated streak that culminated in winning the Hyundai A-League 2011 Championship five days ago.

“Brisbane Roar is an incredibly important part of the Hyundai A-League and ensuring Ange Postecoglou can continue what he has started in Brisbane is another significant step in the development of football in this country,” Mr Buckley said.

“I can assure the people of Brisbane that the Roar, with Ange in charge, will be given every opportunity to remain highly competitive in the Hyundai A-League and we look forward to what Ange can deliver not only for Brisbane Roar but for the greater Brisbane sporting community.

“The Grand Final we witnessed on Sunday was a great advertisement for the game and the Hyundai A-League and it showed the true quality and caliber of the competition.

“FFA will work tirelessly in the off season to leverage the success of the Grand Final and continue the momentum that wonderful spectacle created for the Hyundai A-League.”
