Brisbane Roar Captain Tom Aldred is positive his side can bounce back from their narrow defeat to the Phoenix in Wellington last weekend.

The Roar return to Suncorp Stadium where they take on the Mariners on Saturday (4pm KO) – a side against whom they are undefeated in their last 15 Hyundai A-League meetings.

The skipper says it was a disappointing performance against the Phoenix on Saturday with Saturday’s meeting against the Mariners providing a perfect chance to rectify that performance in front on the Roar’s home fans.

“It was probably the first game of the season where we weren’t where we need to be performance-wise to win football matches which is disappointing,” Aldred said.

“With Saturday’s game coming around quick, it’s an opportunity to put that performance right.”

Saturday’s game against the Mariners will be only the third home game of the campaign for the Roar and Aldred is keen to get back in front of home support.

“We’re looking forward to being back at home – we’ve had a lot of away trips so we want to make our home a fortress and that starts Saturday against Central Coast,” the Captain continued.

“When you come to your home stadium in front of your fans and they get behind us, it’s like a 12th man – we saw that last week at Dolphin [Stadium].”

“We’ve seen a bit of everything at the moment but it’s about putting that all together as a team in both boxes – we’re not far away,” he added.

“There’s plenty more games to come but we’re looking forward to nailing that down and getting some success on the way.”

There’ll be a little added motivation for the home side who were pipped at the post earlier this year by the Mariners in the FFA Cup Round of 16, being defeated on penalties.

“In football you always remember things and to get knocked out in the way that we did that game, it was a disappointing one and it’s now a game we’re looking forward to,” Aldred concluded.
