New Brisbane Roar defender Tom Aldred says his side are gelling nicely ahead of Saturday’s pre-season hit out against Brisbane City at Logan Metro Sports Complex (3pm KO).

The Roar welcome the NPL Queensland outfit to its City of Logan training base as preparations continue to ramp up ahead of the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 season.

Aldred, who is one of eleven new additions brought in by Head Coach Robbie Fowler this off-season, says he and his new team-mates are adapting well to life in Brisbane.

“It’s a lovely area to come to but we’ve been working hard and we’re obviously excited for the coming season,” Aldred said.

“There’s a lot of people in the same boat as each other in that they’re brand new to the football club.

“Everyone seems to be getting along well and there’s a lot of excitement within the group because we feel like we’ve signed some good players and we feel like we’ve got a team that can go places if we work hard.”

Saturday’s match is the Club’s second pre-season encounter after running out 3-0 winners over Redlands United last weekend.

Following Saturday’s match, the squad will head north for a pre-season camp in Gladstone, which includes a fixture against a Gladstone Select side at Marley Brown Oval on Saturday, 27 July.

The new campaign’s first competitive fixture – an FFA Cup Round of 32 tie against Sydney FC at Leichhardt Oval comes the following week on Wednesday, 7 August.

Aldred says the team will use Saturday’s clash against City as an opportunity to build on the foundations put in place in their opening pre-season fixture.

“As a team we’re starting to get to where we want to be and the way we want to play the game,” Aldred said.

“There’s definitely room for improvement, but I think it was initially just good to get some minutes in the legs. As games go on, we want to get closer to where we really want to be in terms of playing and competing.

“We’re enjoying it and I think initially it’s not just growing on the pitch, it’s growing off the pitch as well.”
